There are three varieties of this species and  they are often labeled as different species (plant taxonomists have kept them under a single species up to this point) arabica, ritchiana and ritchiana 'Silver'. There does seem to be some difference between the cold hardiness and growth rate of the three different types. These seeds were of the straight ritchiana variety but there has been some variation in the seedlings. Mazari palm is native to the deserts of central Asia from Afghanistan and Pakistan to the Arabian Peninsula. These palms have proven excellent Arizona desert palms and require intermittent deep soaking but are drought, heat and cold tolerant. Zones 7-11
